Bye Bye Baby

The Baby is definitely no longer a baby.  Obviously, I’ve known this for a long time, I’ve just been in denial.  How can my baby girl be a little girl already?  But with an actual baby being around for almost a month now, there is definitely no denying it; she is a Proper Little Girl.  And so to that end The Baby can no longer be known as The Baby. … Continue reading

Incommunicado

The Baby is a curious and questioning little thing.  She asks about everything – “Whassit say?”, “Press?”, “On?” – and likes to do everything for herself, “No, Baby do it” (except she doesn’t say Baby as, you may not have realised, but that’s not really her name).  She particularly likes anything with buttons on it – remote controls (“trolls”), phones, TVs, The Boyfriend’s iPad and PC, cash machines, lifts…you get… Continue reading

Like Mother Like Daughter?

Yesterday I should have had a growth scan to find out if Little Pea is likely to be as big as his/her older sister.  But I didn’t.  Instead, I spent all morning from just after midnight until about 10am violently throwing up.  It was horrible, and exhausting, and has made me realise I have muscles where I didn’t know any existed.  It also made me realise I have a LOT… Continue reading

When the Battle is Lost

There are times when I struggle as a mum.  I know, shocker, right?  I always keep my struggles so well hidden.  OK, so there are lots of times when I struggle as a mum.  The biggest struggle these days is the internal debate as to whether what I am saying to The Baby, what I am teaching her and the values I am trying to instill in her, are the right… Continue reading

A Tale of Two Pregnancies

I’ve been thinking recently about just how different this pregnancy feels to my last one.  It’s not just that feeling of having done it all before – that sounds callous, and I don’t mean it to.  I absolutely love feeling each movement that Little Pea makes, and I’m just as excited about meeting her/him as I was about meeting The Baby.  And I get just as excited when we buy… Continue reading

Bind Bobbin Up

I’ll let you into a secret: I really don’t like mornings.  I really, really don’t like mornings that are dark, cold and start far too early.  My mornings have been like this for too long now.  If I’m going to be woken at a… Continue reading

All In My Head

A few weeks ago, I felt Little Pea move.  Just a tiny fluttery, bubbly sensation (no, it definitely wasn’t wind) but a definite sensation.  Two days ago The Boyfriend felt Little Pea move.  Suddenly the Pea is big enough to make his or her presence felt in the outside world.  At 19 weeks old, Little Pea is a part of everyone’s life, not just my own.  This amazes me, and… Continue reading

A Little Thank You

So Christmas is over.  All the shopping, the planning, the wrapping and the visiting, all done for another year.  I still love this time, though.  This quiet bit after the ‘big day’, when you can actually spend time with family and friends, and talk and eat cake and drink tea, and not have to worry about who else you need to see, which presents you need to deliver, who you… Continue reading

Highlights

This week has been rather eventful.  There has been a lot going on, from strikes to sick babies to St Nicholas.

On Wednesday I joined the local rally protesting about the quite frankly horrendous proposals the government are making regarding public sector pensions.  It was small in comparison to many other rallies, but it was still amazing to see people turn up and make themselves heard, particularly when there… Continue reading
